Moore Brion makes the switch to hurdles having won both of his bumpers, and I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on over the obstacles. He was impressive on his first visit to Market Rasen, showing a good turn of foot, and followed that up with another promising performance last time out. He’s schooled well, and he’s a horse we’ve always thought plenty of, so it’ll be interesting to see how he starts the season.
Don Dandy comes over from France for his first run in Britain in the juvenile hurdle division. He arrives with a relatively high rating for this type of race and, importantly, has already gained some valuable experience, which a lot of juveniles don’t have.
He’s an interesting runner, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do. Hopefully, he’s about right for his first start over here and can make a nice start to the season.
Sure Touch heads into the veterans’ chase division, and he’s a horse who has enjoyed success at Market Rasen, including over course and distance. He was disappointing here last time, but he generally saves some of his best efforts for this track. He’s been an old legend of the yard, although he’s probably not as well handicapped as he once was. These veterans’ races are brilliant for horses like him, and he’ll wear blinkers for the first time, so hopefully they can spark him up a little bit. He definitely has a chance if he turns up at his best, but that’s what we need to see.
Livin On Luco runs in the Silver Cup, and I’m looking forward to getting on him for the first time. He finished fourth in last season’s Coral Welsh Grand National, so we know he stays very well. He looks the type who will appreciate a test of stamina, and with the stable’s horses having started the season well, I’m looking forward to riding him and seeing how we get on.
Gamble Tiep makes his first start for Olly Murphy after a very long absence of more than 800 days. It’s obviously a long time to be off the track, and, to be honest, I’m not sure how fit he’ll be or how ready he is for his return. I’d imagine he might just need the run.
Clos Du Mouche rounds off my six rides, although I don’t know a great deal about him at this stage. He’s by Nirvana Du Berlais, who is doing very well as a stallion, and he wasn’t a cheap three-year-old. Based on that, I’m hopeful he could be a nice horse, but I’ll know more once I’ve had the chance to ride him.
