Hold The Throw is a nice horse, and I was quite keen on him when he ran last time. The main thing with him is that he needs to settle and do things the right way around. He has done lots of schooling over hurdles at home, so he should be ready for this assignment. If he settles nicely and puts it all together, he will give himself a good chance on his hurdles debut.
Galway Reel won well over fences last month on his first start for Olly, and he goes back over hurdles off a similar mark. Hopefully, he can reproduce that sort of form back over the smaller obstacles. He showed what he could do last time, so if he brings that performance back to hurdles, he goes there with a good chance.
King Jon Oliver makes his first start over fences for Olly, having won on his first run for him. I think he’s probably a horse who goes well fresh, so hopefully he’ll be nicely freshened up for this. His first run over fences should give him something a little different to think about, and the change of discipline could suit him. He obviously needs to return to form, but hopefully he can do that over fences.
Diamond Geezer had a very good season last year, winning twice in the summer and finishing with two victories from his last three starts. He’s clearly in good form, although those wins have meant life is not going to be any easier for him off his current mark.
It might be difficult for him to win first time out off this rating, but hopefully he can run a good race and use it as a platform to set himself up nicely for the season ahead.
Saint Polo makes his first start for Jack Jones after previously being with Jennie Candlish, who did very well with him. He won three races on the trot a couple of runs back, so there’s some good form there to work with.
It’ll be interesting to see whether he’s reached the top of his mark, but he’s clearly a horse with ability. Hopefully, Jack can get a little more out of him, and he can make a positive start for his new stable.
Synchronist was probably a little disappointing last season. After winning a few races over hurdles, I thought he might develop into a really nice chaser, but things haven’t quite worked out for him over fences so far.
He’s run a couple of respectable races, and his best performance may have come around Market Rasen, although he was still beaten by miles that day. He’s been disappointing over fences, but I think he’s well handicapped now. If he can get back to the form he showed over hurdles, he’s certainly got a mark that gives him a chance.
I don’t know too much about Nostrae de Cougny at this stage, but he runs in the bumper for Stuart Edmunds. Stuart had a first-time-out winner last season, so hopefully he can do the same again here.
