Manchester City, who have scored 16 goals in three home games this season, take on Southampton on Saturday and we offer some Man City v Southampton betting tips.
City have won their last three Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium 5-0 and thrashed RB Leipzig 6-3 in the Champions League on Wednesday night. They take on a Saints side who are winless in their last six top-flight matches.
Saturday’s match, which takes place at the Etihad Stadium, kicks off at 3pm.
Only two teams in the top flight have won four or more consecutive matches by a margin of five goals or more – Everton in 1931 and Aston Villa in 1890 – and Man City are 19/5 to score five goals or more in the game.
Having beaten Everton 5-0 in the final Premier League game of last season, they dispatched newly-promoted Norwich by the same margin to start the new campaign before also crushing Arsenal.
It is no surprise that the Citizens are 2/13 to beat Southampton, who have not exactly relished their last two trips to Manchester. They were beaten 9-0 at Old Trafford by United in February and went down 5-2 to City in March.
Southampton are winless in their last six Premier League games (D3 L3), drawing the last three in a row. The last time Saints had four consecutive draws in the top flight was in March 2002.
None of Manchester City’s last 30 Premier League games have ended in a draw (W25 L5) since a 1-1 draw against West Brom last December.
City have won eight of their last nine Premier League meetings with Southampton, with the exception being a 1-0 defeat at St Mary’s in July 2020.
After winning three consecutive away league games against Man City between March 2001 and April 2004, Saints have lost nine of their last 10 visits to Etihad and suffered some heavy defeats, including a 6-1 thrashing three years ago.
Likewise, Saints have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 11 league games away from St Mary’s and it is no surprise that the odds are 16/1 for them to keep a clean sheet.
No less than 16 of the last 23 meetings saw three goals or more scored in total and it is 4/11 for that strong trend to continue in Man City v Southampton betting tips.

City have faced just four shots on target in their four league games and three of those came in their opening 1-0 loss at Tottenham.
Southampton’s England international James Ward-Prowse (pictured above) has scored in his last two away games at the Etihad and if anyone is likely to get a strike on the City goal it is the dead-ball specialist. He is 6/1 to score at any time.
It may be worth noting that after this game and League Cup clash with Wycombe on Tuesday, City face three tough away games – at Chelsea, PSG and Liverpool – in succession, so Pep Guardiola will hope his side put this game to bed early in the hope of resting a few major players.
