Blingy’s Sister - Newbury - 1.25 race odds
Ardisia - Newbury - 2.00 race odds
Triple Double A - Newbury - 4.55 race odds
We kick things off with Blingy’s Sister in the Fred Darling Stakes. She’s a filly we think a lot of, and the immediate aim is to try and pick up some black type with her. This looks a sensible starting point and should tell us plenty about where we stand. She does hold an entry in the 1000 Guineas, which gives you an idea of the regard we have for her, but realistically she’s more of a place chance here. That said, I do think she’ll prove herself capable of holding her own in stakes company as the season progresses.
Next up is Ardisia in the Greenham Stakes. He had a very good two-year-old campaign, winning three times over six furlongs, and I don’t think we quite saw the best of him when he ran at Del Mar. We felt he was a bit unlucky there. Oisin Murphy was frustrated afterwards and thought he’d made the wrong call tactically. With a clearer passage, he might well have finished much closer.
Seven furlongs at Newbury should suit him well and I think that trip is firmly within his compass. Being a gelding, this isn’t about Classic aspirations — it’s simply about finding the right races for him to progress through the year. I’m not convinced he’ll get a mile just yet, but six or seven furlongs should be ideal. There are plenty of options for him going forward, including races like the Jersey Stakes, and this looks a good place to start. I’d be hopeful of a solid run.
We round things off with Triple Double A in a handicap. He didn’t quite see out the trip in the Rosebery last time, so we’re dropping him back to a mile and a quarter, which we know suits him. He’s been in good form at home and looks well, and while it’s a competitive race, I think this trip will give him every chance to show what he can do.
