Coral are offering delightfully enhanced odds of 5/4 for legendary duo, in the men and women’s section respectively, Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova to win their second round matches in straight sets.
Despite both being knocked out in this very round last year, they will be determined to rectify that anomaly in an otherwise high class record at SW19.
Arguably the best player of all time Federer, who has won 17 Grand Slams, besides 2013, has managed to reach at least the quarter-finals at the All-England Club 10 consecutive times, winning it on seven occasions.
Russia’s Sharapova, meanwhile, has got to the fourth round at least in eight of her last 10 visits to SW19, prior to 2013, and was champion in 2004 (as was Federer). She comes into the tournament this year in high confidence, having just won the French Open – her fifth Grand Slam.
Joint-record Wimbledon champion Federer (fourth-favourite at 11/2 to get an unprecedented eighth title) goes up against Luxembourg world number 103 in the second round this year, and has won all three of their meetings in straight sets. The current fourth seed is heavily odds-on for victory at 1/14, and 4/9 to do so 3-0.
Sharapova is seeded fifth this year, and is second-favourite for the title at 6/1. She goes up against Federer’s compatriot Timea Bacsinszky (world number 85), and boasts a 1-0 record without dropping a set. The 27-year-old is also priced heavily odds-on both to beast her again at 1/12, and in straight sets at 1/4.
Catch the action with Federer on Centre Court and Sharapova on Court No.2, where they are both scheduled to play third.
