Belardo (8/1) gave owners Godolphin back-to-back successes in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury when coming with a storming late run under jockey Andrea Atzeni to beat Euro Charline by a length, with Irish raider Endless Drama running a blinder to finish a further neck behind in third on his first start for nearly a year.

Flyweight Andrew Selby, brother of featherweight world champion Lee, became the fastest Welsh boxer to win a British title when earning a unanimous decision victory over Louis Norman on home soil.

Lee Haskins retained his IBF world bantamweight title with a unanimous points win over Mexico’s Ivan Morales, younger sibling of former multi-weight world champion Erik, with scores of 118-110, 118-110 and 119-108 all in his favour.

Steve Bruce’s Hull side took a big step towards the Championship play-off final with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Derby County in the first leg of their semi, with strikes coming from Abel Hernandez, a Jason Shackell own-goal and Andy Robertson.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham haplessly finished the campaign in third position, letting bitter rivals Arsenal edge ahead of them into second place, after a shock 5-1 thumping at the hands of relegated Newcastle United. Harry Kane’s misery will have been cushioned by winning this season’s Golden Boot, though.

Manuel Pellegrini ended his Manchester City reign with a 1-1 draw against Swansea City, a result which virtually assures them of fourth spot in the top flight table. Kelechi Iheanacho and Andre Ayew were on the scoresheet during the clash in Wales.

In a bizarre series of events at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s final league game against Bournemouth was abandoned due to a suspicious object found at Old Trafford. The game has since been rescheduled for Tuesday night at 8pm, with the device reported to have been a situation-training prop which was carelessly left behind.

Olivier Giroud fired Arsenal to second in the Premier League with a hat-trick against basement club Aston Villa, as Arsene Wenger’s Gunners rallied to a comfortable 4-0 triumph.
