Manchester’s lightweight champion Crolla put on another world class performance to successfully defend his WBA strap on home soil, stopping dangerous South American challenger Barroso in the seventh round with a solid body shot.

Bolton native Khan was knocked spark out by opponent Alvarez in the sixth round, and the Mexican retained his belt.
There was key action at Ascot and Leopardstown over the weekend, with high-profile horses taking to the turf….

Trainer-jockey duo Charlie Appleby and Adam Kirby combined to snare success at Ascot in the Class 2 Victoria Cup, with Flash Fire winning by three-quarters of a length.

Kieren Fallon’s ride Now Or Never proved a worthy favourite in the Irish 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown with the filly easing down to win by almost two lengths.

Jim Bolger saddled Godolphin’s Moonlight Magic to the Irish Derby Trial at Leopardstown in a hugely competitive contest.

A 3-0 win at The Valley over relegated Charlton Athletic handed Burnley the Championship title.

Meanwhile, a 1-1 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion at the Riverside allowed Middlesbrough to end their seven-year absence from the Premier League.

Jermain Defoe grabbed a precious winning goal as Sunderland ensured Premier League survival stays in their own hands, after a 3-2 victory over Chelsea.

Leicester’s coronation as Premier League champions was complete as they beat Everton 3-1 at home. Jamie Vardy scored twice and saw a penalty saved.

Wigan Athletic lifted the League One title despite losing 4-1 to play-off contenders Barnsley. Burton Albion, meanwhile, will play second tier football for the first time after a goalless draw with Doncaster Rovers, who joined Blackpool in being relegated.
