I am looking forward to the return of the jumps’ programme at Perth on Saturday. With no jumps racing scheduled, I managed to get away earlier this week for a holiday, which was really nice. It was good to switch off and refresh the batteries before getting back into things. When I returned, I was hit with 35C sunshine, so I think I brought the sun back with me.

It's obviously enjoyable riding when the weather is nice, but when it gets very, very hot, it can be hard work. You notice it as a jockey because it takes a lot more out of you than it would on a normal day. You have to make sure you're drinking plenty and looking after yourself, because it can be tough when you're working hard in those conditions.

Thankfully, the horses seem to handle the heat pretty well, which is the main thing. It looks like it should be a little cooler by Saturday, so hopefully the conditions will be a bit more comfortable.
