Netherlands v Austria betting tips: Dutch could serve up another thriller

Austria struck twice late on to ensure North Macedonia’s debut at a major tournament ended in a spirited 3-1 defeat in Romania.

Stefan Lainer’s impressive finish was cancelled out by Goran Pandev but Austria secured their maiden win at a Euros thanks to efforts from second-half substitutes Michael Gregoritsch and Marko Arnautovic.

That has taken the pressure off heading into what is likely to be their toughest group game and Austria are 5/1 underdogs here while the draw is 16/5.

Austria had failed to score in their previous three games ahead of Euro 2020, though, and a Dutch win to nil is available at 33/20.

Netherlands v Austria head-to-head

The Dutch have dominated this fixture in recent times, winning the last six meetings in a run stretching back to 1992.

The most recent was a friendly in Vienna in June 2016 when a goal in each half from Vincent Janssen and Wijnaldum secured a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

The last competitive meetings were in qualifying for Euro 2004 and the Netherlands came out on top in both, winning 3-0 away and 3-1 at home.

Austria are without Marko Arnautovic after he was banned by UEFA for “insulting another player” against North Macedonia.

Key battles

Netherlands registered seven shots in the opening 15 minutes against Ukraine with two of their most experienced players, Memphis Depay and Wijnaldum, running the show.

Wijnaldum plays a much more attacking role for his country than he does for Liverpool and is 13/2 to open the scoring while odds of 6/5 are on offer for the Dutch to win and Depay to have at least two shots on target.
