Man-to-flit from Bayern Munich

Croatia international, and Bayern Munich striker, Mario Mandzukic has revealed that he will leave the German giants after the World Cup, as coach Pep Guardiola does not play to his strengths.

The 28-year-old said: “I met with [Bayern chairman] Karl Heinz Rummenigge and told him I wanted to leave the club.

“I’ve had a fantastic time at Bayern. It’s a great club and I never thought I’d want to leave, and especially not at this point in time. But, let’s be honest, I cannot play to my strengths under Guardiola’s style no matter how hard I try.”

Mandzukic is currently at World Cup with his country, and is 12/1 to be the top goalscorer in Group A. Despite claiming Guardiola’s style doesn’t suit him, the lethal hitman still managed 26 goals in 48 appearances last season across all competitions.

Tottenham Hotspur

New manager Mauricio Pochettino will have a wealth of targets in mind, though when a striker of Mandzukic’s quality becomes available, any club that has ambition sits up and takes notice. There is a significant question mark over Roberto Soldado, who was signed from Valencia for £26m last summer, though perhaps with the right foil, he can become a success.

Manchester United

Louis van Gaal will be well aware of Mandzukic’s strengths, and should he require a different option to Robin van Persie, then the Croatian could turn out to be a great fit. United are no strangers to physical centre forwards. Ruud van Nistelrooy was a huge hit at Old Trafford, and Mandzukic isn’t too dissimilar in style. Powerful, an eye for goal, great in the air, and a clinical finisher, it could be just the signing United need, if Van Gaal can convince him.

Everton

Perhaps from left-field, though Roberto Martinez’s side will be playing at a higher level than United next season with Europa League football. If the Toffees can’t retain Romelu Lukaku on loan for another campaign, or sign him permanently, Martinez may consider a move for the Croatian. Fans are used to seeing powerful centre forwards at Goodison Park, and with an abundance of youthful quality, that creates chances and plays good football, it’s not too far a stretch to imagine the Croatian on the blue half of Merseyside.
