Joe Tizzard Saturday runners blog: 'The ground should suit, and I think stepping up to three miles will help her'

1.00 Kelso - Sunset Marquesa

She had a bit of a fall early on in the Mares’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, but thankfully she’s come out of that fine. This run has been a bit of an afterthought, but the ground should suit, and I think stepping up to three miles will help her. It looks like a nice little race, and I can see her running well and hopefully finishing in the frame.

1.15 Newbury – Lisbane Park

He was a little unlucky at Exeter last time, just getting touched off by a horse with some decent form. He’s a nice horse, and while there are a couple to respect—particularly the Chris Gordon runner—we’re not far off them on the ratings. He likes Newbury and the ground, so I’d expect him to go close.

2.10 Kelso – Our Peggy

Our Peggy has improved with each run this season and she learned plenty when winning her first race, particularly about settling. This is a valuable handicap, and she carries a nice racing weight of 10-7. If she settles and gets into a good rhythm, I think she can run well and hopefully pick up some of that prize money.

2.25 Newbury – Scarface

He’s been a bit up and down this season with a couple of good runs and a couple of runs below par. It depends a bit on which horse turns up, but he was second in this race last year and is edging back down to a workable mark. If he gets away well and into a rhythm, he’s capable of being involved.

3.35 Newbury – No Way Jay and Spanish Stroll

No Way Jay was a bit naughty last time when running off the track, so we’ll keep things simple and make sure he’s covered up before asking for his effort. He’s shown he has a good engine, and his form has worked out well, so if he behaves himself, we can give him another chance.

Spanish Stroll is a big, scopey horse who will improve with time. This might come a bit soon for him to be fully competitive, but he should take a step forward from Kempton. He’s one to look forward to next season.
