It’s obviously been a frustrating week, with all the meetings off, but it’s not unexpected at this time of year, and we’re all in the same boat, so we have to get on with it. The team at home do a great job of keeping everything running, as horses don’t stop for the weather, and the good news is temperatures are set to rise, so all being well we should be able to make up for lost time soon enough.
If Sunday’s two meetings do pass their Saturday inspections, we’ll run a couple at Lingfield, and one at Fakenham. Lingfield have put up really good prize money, so it’s no surprise the Grade 2 novice chase has been saved from Friday’s card, and that it’s attracted a small but competitive field. I’m keen to get some more chasing experience into JPR One, I thought he ran OK at Sandown last time, he just got stuck in the mud really, so better ground here will suit, and hopefully we can get him back on track.
Triple Trade has done nothing but improve all season, winning twice, and continuing the upward curve he was on last season, so the handicapper is going to have his say with him at some point. He’s won around Lingfield over hurdles on heavy ground, so he wouldn’t mind how testing it got, and while the Irish horse [The King Of Prs] could be hard to beat, if this fellow can keep improving, he’ll have a chance.
I thought Ilovethenightlife ran better than her finishing position suggested at Cheltenham last time, at halfway it looked as if she might get tailed off, but she stayed on well, particularly as she also got hampered by a loose horse. She’s off top weight here, so Freddie [Gingell] rides to take five pounds off, but I don’t think she’s badly handicapped and can hopefully go well over a trip she likes.
