Ahead of the 2026 Grand National, Coral previews all of the races taking place at Aintree, continuing with the Bowl Chase on Thursday, April 9.

2026 Bowl Chase contenders and tip
With another small field of five runners, this could be one of the more competitive races on the Thursday card.
Nicky Henderson’s Jango Baie is the youngest runner in the field at seven years old, and was most recently seen finishing second to Gaelic Warrior in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. His phenomenal consistency has to be taken in account here. He has run well at Aintree before, placing in last year’s Manifesto, but he is better over this longer distance and could get to the winners enclosure here. He has youth on his side and could be part of a very successful day for his trainer.
Wille Mullins’ Impaire Et Passe has been seen little this season, winning on reappearance at Gowran Park before pulling up at Cheltenham. He needs to show here that he is back on his best form, but he has been inconsistent over fences historically and others are easier to back.
Spillane’s Tower comes here after a break since January, where he won at Cheltenham in Grade Two company. He is an inconsistent sort but can show up in races like this. He could surprise, but isn’t wholly reliable.
Dan Skelton’s Protektorat seeks a hat-trick, but tends to be better on a softer surface. A very capable and reliable type, his form on good ground might not be good enough to make a case for him here.
Pic d’Orhy, conversely, is best on ground like this, but was beaten so far by Jango Baie in the 1965 Chase at Ascot (36 lengths), that he looks outclassed here.
Coral’s big-race tip: Jango Baie at 5/6
