Chelsea ace set to feature in WC opener

Gary Cahill - England

The latest odds from Coral suggest Gary Cahill will be in England’s starting XI for the World Cup opener against Tunisia.

The Chelsea defender is 5/6 to start the opening game, having played 90 minutes and scored in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat of Nigeria.

As for the Three Lions’ other defensive options, Kyle Walker at 1/10 and 1/6 shot John Stones both look nailed-on to start against the North African outfit.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Gary Cahill is now odds-on to start against Tunisia in what is likely to be a back three alongside Kyle Walker and John Stones.”

Hill added: “It is quite a turn of events as just months ago Cahill was a big price to even make the 23-man squad and now he is more likely to start the opening game than not to.”

Elsewhere, Eric Dier at 1/6 is the most likely midfielder to feature, while the odds also heavily favour starts for Harry Kane at 1/10 and Raheem Sterling (1/7).
