Saturday - Goodwood - 1.30 – Oh Yes You Do

I sat on this filly a couple of months ago, and she went well in her training. Her trainer, David Menuisier, has been very patient with her, and he has waited for the right moment for her to make her debut. David has done extremely well with his two-year-olds, so I expect she will be ready for this assignment.

2.05 – Purosangue

Purosangue was a little disappointing last time in the Stewards’ Cup. He is stepping up a furlong now, and that should help, as it will allow him to take his time to get into the race. He is very versatile on all types of ground, and I feel he is off a mark he can take advantage of. If he stays the trip and gets the run of the race, he is in with a good chance.

2.40 – Warda Jamila

Warda Jamila has just struggled a little recently, so we are going up in trip with her to see if she can perform better over 1m4f. She has prevailed off this mark of 85 before. If she settles and it is a slow run race, her speed can come into play, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see her pick up some decent prize money.

Leading jocket David Probert shares his thoughts on his rides at day one of the Chester May Festival on Wednesday, May 7 with Coral readers.

3.50 - Expert Witness

I won on Expert Witness at Windsor back in April. Unfortunately for her connections, she has not been able to successfully follow up in her two starts since. At the start of the season, when she was proving to be consistent, I felt she could gain some black type, but she has remained at her level. She has had a break since her last run, and hopefully, that has freshened her up for this race.

4.25 – Rockit Tommy

Rockit Tommy is another one trained by Patrick Chamings. We felt like we had the key to this horse over 1m4f, by dropping him in and looking to pick off his rivals late on. He is now up to 1m6f, and it should suit him. He is a big horse, so there is a slight concern about the undulations of the course. If he handles it, I can see him being thereabouts.

5.00 – Queen All Star

I rode Queen All Star to victory on the all-weather at Wolverhampton. She then won well at Sandown. Jack Channon really likes this filly. The hunt for black type was unsuccessful last time. She is now back in handicap company, and she is capable of picking up another victory at this level.

Sunday - Deauville - 2.50 – Coppull

Coppull has been such a progressive horse since he made his debut, so he deserves his shot at this Group One contest in France. He was very impressive in the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. We are taking on Gstaad once again, who we finished third behind in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. It may help that there is only a small field this time around.

We think Deauville will suit, and we have no concerns about the ground. If he takes another step forward, like he has on each start so far, I can see him challenging for the first few places in this race.
