Haydock 2.25 – Vicario
I’m in the last couple of weeks of riding here before I head off on my Hong Kong adventure, I’m really excited to get going over there, it will be very different to here as riders book their own rides, but it will be a great challenge, and one I’m looking forward to. Until then though I still have lots to keep me busy here, with York to come, and five rides at Haydock here, starting with Vicario.
I imagine the aim with this filly is to earn her owner breeder some black-type, this is a decent race with Shuwari looking the one to beat, but we’re drawn well in stall two. I’ll speak to Ed [Walker] about tactics, but as I say, riding her for a place is probably the plan.
Haydock 3.00 – First Conquest
I’ve got five rides for five different trainers, and it’s always great to wear the Godolphin silks. First Conquest was in excellent form at Meydan earlier in the year, and while he’s been off since April, he will enjoy any further drying in the ground and can go well from stall three.

Haydock 3.35 – Masterinthewoods
Although this horse is still a maiden, he ran well to finish second at Epsom last time, and shouldn’t mind dropping back in trip here, as he has good form over ten furlongs. He’s up just a pound for that run, and it wouldn’t take much improvement to see him get involved in a tight looking handicap.
Haydock 4.10 – Inside Matters
Inside Matters has had two starts for David O’Meara, and has the hood and tongue-tie on here. He does need to improve to figure here, but David is an excellent trainer who will be getting to know this fellow with each run, and there should be more to come.
Haydock 4.45 – Melissa Honey
I’ve not ridden this filly before, but her trainer Michael Herrington has been a big supporter of mine, and it would be lovely to sign off with a winner for him. She was doing all her best work at the finish over six furlongs last time, so stepping up to seven looks the right step for her, and getting weight from most of her rivals, she could have each way chances at least.
