This Dan Skelton-trained four-year-old seeks to maintain his unbeaten record here and, while this race won’t necessarily be easy to win, he has all the qualifications and runs for a top yard.
Toby Lawes’ horses are in terrific form at present and this gelding looks most likely to find his feet in staying handicaps, so could have found his opportunity here, especially given three pounds by Benjamin Macey.
Despite a disappointing return to action at Exeter, this Joe Tizzard-trained gelding is the only one of the three with form over fences and a run under his belt this term already. A step back down in trip may be beneficial too.
Harry Derham is doing particularly well with maiden hurdlers this term and, therefore, Western Monkey is an eyecatcher, making a start for the young trainer here today having won his point-to-point well last month.
The JP McManus-owned 11-year-old may find himself at a winnable mark now, having not been disgraced when last seen over two and a half miles at Carlisle. He ought to be ready now to win this, stepping back up in trip under regular rider Richie McLernon.
Rebecca Menzies’ consistent gelding has kept improving for the Durham-based handler and, after a respectable performance on seasonal debut at Kelso, a step forward can be expected here.
Seeking a hat-trick for Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith, whose horses are going really well at present, this eight-year-old looks to be at the right end of the handicap to succeed again here and has held his form well in the past.
