Coral's Queen Mother Champion Chase Cheltenham 2026 tip

One of the less open races of the Festival, the Champion Chase should be an exciting race nonetheless.

Willie Mullins’ Majborough leads the way in the betting at 5/6, having won the Dublin Chase in preparation for this race by a very tidy 19 lenghts. With no Marine Nationale here, who was second that day, he could go largely unchallenged.

Dan Skelton’s L’eau Du Sud might pose something of a threat, but is rated 11 pounds lower than the JP McManus-owned favourite.

He should run a very good race, having won the Shloer Chase in November, 15 lengths ahead of Jonbon, and is a consistent sort who rarely lets his trainer down. He goes well at Cheltenham and could impress.

The Paul Townend-ridden Il Etait Temps looks underestimated by the market at 5/1. He is rated two pounds below Majborough and, while he was not on form when we last saw him in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot, he is a very smart horse who has won seven of his 10 starts over fences.

He could, in fact, be the one to serve it up to his stablemate. He has not, though, won a race at Cheltenham yet.

Captain Guinness must be mentioned here, winner of this race in 2024. He wears first time cheekpieces and comes here having improved his season’s form at Naas last time out for third place in a Grade Three race. He could make the placings.

Coral’s big-race tip: Majborough at 5/6
