Call Yourself A Fan?: Tim Sherwood backs Gerard Pique’s bizarre proposal

As criticism of modern football’s entertainment value continues, Tim Sherwood has sensationally backed Gerard Piqué’s proposal to award zero points to both teams who participate in a no-score draw whilst speaking on quiz show series ‘Call Yourself A Fan?’.

When discussing footballing pet peeves and changes they would like to see in sport, Sherwood showed his support for Pique’s bizarre idea:

I don’t like nil-nil draws, so I would always say any nil-nil draws, no one gets any points. So, team would have to come out and have a go.

When questioned by Jimmy Bullard about score draws, Tim stated “One-one is fine, you would still get a point each. But nil-nil, nothing, zero.”

The proposal first came to light in 2025, when the legendary Barcelona defender suggested the new rule whilst speaking to former teammate Iker Casillas on his podcast, Bajos Los Palos, and with many fans now deeming the Premier League to be ‘too boring’, this unusual suggestion is seemingly making headway with fellow professionals.

Sherwood also used the segment to call out Tottenham Hotspur players for their on-the-pitch antics as the club continue to freefall towards the relegation zone.

What I hate the most about footballers at the moment, and I hate alot of things about footballers, is when they go like this to the fans [waves their hands up and down to encourage the fans to show their support]. They get a corner and start waving to the fans. I saw Tel do that to the Tottenham fans, and I mean, at the moment Tottenham fans just want something to cheer about. He’s just won them acorner, and he’s going like that saying, ‘Come one!’ to their supporters. I’d say to the referee, get the card out straight away, book him, and if he does it again send them off. If I was the manager, I’d say that!

Tim Sherwood was a recent guest on ‘Call Yourself A Fan’ a weekly quiz show sponsored by Coral which sees football fans of a specific club go head-to-head against a team of football legends and celebrity supporters.

Sherwood was on a team alongside regular guest Jimmy Bullard and English comedian Seann Walsh.

‘Call Yourself A Fan’ is available to watch in full on YouTube and Spotify for Video, while cutdown and highlights from the show will feature on Facebook, Instagram and X. The new episode with Sherwood, Bullard and Walsh will be available to watch on Friday 20th March.
