Call Yourself A Fan?: 'Messi could never score that goal’ reaction to Charlie Adam's wonderstrike
Charlie Adam has revealed the tribute Jose Mourinho paid to him, after his free-kick against Chelsea for Stoke City in April 2015.
Speaking on the latest episode of the hit quiz show series ‘Call Yourself A Fan?’, sponsored by Coral, Adam shared the tactical preparation behind his 67 yard strike at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder revealed that the goal was the result of rigorous work with a goalkeeping coach to exploit Thibaut Courtois’ tendency to play as a ‘sweeper-keeper’.
Recalling the moments after the final whistle, Adam told the audience:
Mourinho came up to me in the tunnel and said, ‘You know what separates you from any others? Ronaldo and Messi will never ever score that goal.’ That has always stuck with me—that the two greatest players in the world wouldn't be able to do what I did that day.
Adam’s pride in the strike runs so deep that he even named ahorse he owned ‘67 Yards’ in tribute to the wonder strike.
The episode also saw Adam weigh in on the fiercest rivalries in football. Despite playing in the high-intensity Merseyside derby, Adam ranked the Old Firm as the elite fixture in terms of atmosphere and historical weight.
The Merseyside Derby we lived for, but the Old Firm is probably the elite," Adam said. The atmosphere doesn't come close to anything else. For me, Rangers vs Celtic is the best derby in the UK.
Charlie Adam was a guest on ‘Call Yourself A Fan’ a weekly quiz show sponsored by Coral which sees football fans of a specific club go head-to head against a team of football legends and celebrity supporters.
Adam was joined by Jimmy Bullard and comedian and social media star Jack Skipper.
‘Call Yourself A Fan’ is available to watch in full on YouTube and Spotify for Video, while cutdown and highlights from the show will feature on Facebook, Instagram and X.
