2025 Albert Bartlett contenders and big-race tip

Coral ambassadors Sean Bowen and Joe Tizzard have strong chances of picking up a victory in this weekend’s big race - the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham’s December meeting on Saturday

Jockey Bowen gets the mount on They Call Me Hugo, while trainer Tizzard saddles Kasino Des Mottes in the feature race of the weekend.

It is likely to be Bowen and trainer Olly Murphy’s runner towards the top of the market for the three-mile contest, a last-time-out winner at Ffos Las on rules debut on November 9 on yard debut for Murphy, having also been victorious in a point-to-point prior to that.

Tizzard’s runner certainly has a chance too, another point winner that has made a fine transition to rules, with a fifth on debut at Cheltenham in October and then scoring last time out at Kempton last month.

There are five other runners for the Coral ambassadors to take on at Prestbury Park, with Conman John likely to go off favourite for the Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore team off the back of landing a class two novices’ hurdle at this track when last seen back in October.

The winner of a Novices’ Hurdle on the Old course, the form of which continues to work out ever stronger, this son of Malinas is looking hard to take on.

Topp trainer Nicky Henderson sends Reckless Spending to Cheltenham having been third on  seasonal debut at Ascot late last month, while trainers’ championship leader Dan Skelton has Carlenrig entered, a previous points winner that was second on debut at Chepstow.

Skelton also has Big Cadillac in this one, a two-time winner in his career and was sixth on his last spin following wind surgery, while the field is rounded out by Intosomethingood for Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies, the outsider of the race having been well beaten in a race won by the mightily impressive No Drama This End for Paul Nicholls when last seen.

Coral’s big-race tip: Conman John win @ 11/8
