Aaim To Prosper (2010 and 2012) is the only horse to have won the Cesarewitch twice, despite it having been run first in 1839, but last year's hero Beylerbeyi now has a good chance to win it back to back. He should emerge from the rear into a leading role and is second choice, although a scheduled ten more runners this year makes that task more difficult. 2025 runner-up Dawn Rising could come back to life and Mountain Road would have been tempting if he hadn't been drawn so wide. Valedictory is one for them all to fear if he's in the mood. Preference, however, is for one of James Owen's four runners. Kirchner is easily the shortest priced and holds highly plausible each-way claims but the vote goes to NAVAL TRIBUTE (nap) who is in his first season under Flat rules (having gone close in three bumpers) and has improved almost every time since the headgear was enlisted and he was sent handicapping. That saw him win three of his last four starts and he finished the 2m of his last three outings in the style of one who still has more to give with today's more serious stamina test.[Richard Austen]
