Tom Scudamore: “We think Adagio is a Champion Hurdle contender, so he should be winning this race”

Coral ambassador Tom Scudamore gives us the lowdown on his weekend rides at Wincanton and Newbury
It is a busy weekend for Coral ambassador Tom Scudamore, who heads to Wincanton on Saturday to partner Adagio in the Grade Two Kingwell Hurdle, while he rides two at Newbury on Sunday.
Saturday
He is a well-bred horse who didn’t run up to expectations on his debut at Exeter. We are hoping he comes on from that experience and produces a much better showing on this occasion.
I won on him around Chepstow back in April. He has been successful twice since then and a return to a flatter track will suit him.
He is down to a mark which is just 1lb higher than his last success now and I think he has an excellent chance.
Adagio seems in good order with himself and are very happy with him ahead of this race. We think he is a Champion Hurdle contender.
Goshen sets a very high standard when he turns up and he seems a much better horse when he is going right-handed. We obviously respect him, but for us to have Champion Hurdle aspirations, this is a race we have to be winning.

I’ve never ridden this horse before, but he won last time around Uttoxeter. The ground will hold no fears, so hopefully he has a good chance of following up off this 4lb higher mark.
He didn’t run too badly on her first start for Harriet Brown at Hereford and he should come on from that run. It is obviously a competitive handicap to finish this card at Wincanton.
Sunday
I won a bumper on him last year. He hasn’t quite met expectations so far over hurdles. Hopefully he will take a step forward here.
I like this horse a lot. He was a good second to Blue Hop at Ffos Las. He ran to a good level on his debut and there is no reason why he won’t improve on that on this latest appearance.
