Ireland now odds-on to make Euro 2016 after Georgia win
Published:Republic of Ireland have been cut into 4-6 (from 11-8) to qualify for Euro 2016 following their victory away to Georgia in Group D this afternoon. Martin O’Neill’s side are third best in the betting just ahead of Scotland who are available at evens with the firm following a tight defeat away to World Champions Germany.
In Group F, Northern Ireland came away with a surprise victory on the road to Hungary are into 2-1 to make it through to the tournament proper in 2016.
11-1 shots Albania produced one of the shocks of the day as they beat Portugal in Lisbon to upset the 2-7 favourites on their home soil.
“Republic of Ireland have got off to the perfect start in Group D and are now odds-on to qualify for Euro 2016. There will be tougher tests later in the campaign for Martin O’Neill’s men but it was definitely a case of job done in Georgia,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“It was a really good day overall for the bookmakers as Albania and Northern Ireland were coupon busters at big prices in games elsewhere in qualifying,” added Hill.
