Cheltenham Festival: Gold Cup winners list

Kauto Star’s trainer Paul Nicholls won the race three years in a row between 2007 and 2009 and is the most successful trainer of the race still plying his trade, having saddled the winner four times in total.

However, the leading trainer in the Gold Cup winners list is Tom Dreaper, who counts Arkle’s treble amongst his five Gold Cup victories.

It is no surprise then that Arkle’s jockey Pat Taffe is the winning-most jockey with four wins and he took the trophy home in all but one year between 1964-68.

Ireland have dominated the Gold Cup winners list in recent years with the prize heading to the Emerald Isle in the last five renewals and eight of the last 10, while Nicky Henderson has trained two Gold Cup winners, Long Run and Bobs Worth.
