Swans stick with Curtis as coach

Swansea City have announced that caretaker boss Alan Curtis will take charge of the struggling Premier League side for the remainder of this current campaign.

The 61-year-old took charge as caretaker coach after former boss Garry Monk was dismissed from the Welsh outfit, with the Swans now 10/3 with Coral to face a daunting relegation this term after a woeful campaign so far.

Curtis has not enjoyed much success as caretaker to date, earning just a single victory since Monk left, suffering two defeats and two draws as well from five matches at the helm so far.

Tough job ahead for Curtis

The Swans lie haplessly in 17th position in the top-flight table, just two points above the relegation zone, following their most recent loss at the hands of Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United.

Former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet and ex-Chelsea coach Roberto Di Matteo were both heavily tipped to take over in Wales for the remainder of this season, while former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers had also been linked with a return to the club. But it’s Curtis who has been given the green light to try and salvage Swansea’s so far stuttering season in the top tier.

Chairman back appointment

Chairman Huw Jenkins believes Curtis is the right man for the club at this stage of the campaign.

“Alan Curtis and the current staff set-up will continue until the end of the season,” stated Huw. “We firmly believe it is the right decision for Swansea City.

“Alan has been with us through good and bad times and was part of the management team that helped the club secure its Football League status over 12 years ago.

“He is fully aware of the next important job he has ahead of him to dig deep and find the required levels of performance and motivation to secure our Premier League status – our main goal this season.”
