Jim Crowley: “Plenty of positives for Rebel Territory”
Published:
Jockey and Coral ambassador Jim Crowley previews his two rides at Newmarket on Tuesday.
The new season steps up a gear with the Craven meeting at Newmarket, before Newbury’s trials meeting at the end of the week, so it’s always an exciting time, with the better horses reappearing, and some newer names joining the scene.
I start on Rebel Territory for my sister-in-law Amanda [Perrett] in the 7f handicap. He started last season with a win, so we know he goes well fresh, and he’s won here at Newmarket, so he handles the track well. He didn’t add to that opening win last year, but ran some decent races in defeat.
The top weight, New Kingdom, looks the one to beat for Godolphin, but we’re getting plenty of weight from him, and with several positives in our favour, including soft ground that he won’t mind, I can see him running a big race.

This maiden, named after the late Alex Scott, often attracts an above average field of three-year-olds, and of those to have run, Covey sets a decent standard. My fellow is making his debut, but he’s nicely bred and is going well at home.
Trainer Owen Burrows has a nice team of horses this season and hopefully Daarree is one of them. It would be no surprise to see him go well here, but I’m sure he’ll also learn plenty and improve for the first run.
Jim
