Calyx has become the outright favourite to race to victory in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot on 21st June, according to our bookmakers.
The three-year-old colt is now priced at 11/8 to claim a win at Ascot Racecourse in June’s festival after he stormed to a comeback win in the Merriebelle Stable Commonwealth Cup Trial Stakes this afternoon.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Ten Sovereigns remains his nearest challenger for success in the Cup and is priced at 9/2, with Bulletin third-favourite at 8/1.
“We initially went 2/1 for the Commonwealth Cup following his trial success, but once connections confirmed the six-furlong contest at the Royal meeting was Calyx’s intended target, rather than the St James’s Palace Stakes over a mile, we had no hesitation in cutting his odds for a second time,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
Earlier winners on Royal Ascot trials day included Ventura Rebel, installed at 14/1 for the Coventry Stakes, and Dee Ex Bee, now 8/1 for the Gold Cup, having been cut to 12/1 (from 25/1) immediately after his Sagaro Stakes win.
